Through its different sport section the Real Club de Polo has been developing for years solidarity actions addressed to groups of people with disability, mental health issues or affected by poverty. In these cases, sport can be used as an integration and social inclusion tool or to cure pathologies.
In order to join efforts, the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona through its Foundation and in collaboration with Public Institutions, promote yearly a flagship project with important social connotations.
For this first occasion, the chosen project is an interesting study about the benefits hippotherapy can bring to children who have suffered from cancer treatment. This study counts with the Association Against Cancer (Asociación Contra el Cancer AECC), Federica Cerdá’s Foundation and University Schools of Gimbernat support.
Child cancer has a high rate of cure, however its treatment has important physical and psychological consequences. This study will evaluate how much this hippotherapy program can minimize this alterations on children health.
In order to help them, fifteen children between 7 and 12 years old will be submitted to 24 hippotherapy sessions during 24 weeks. All the process will be specifically supervised and controlled. The study’s results will be known at the end of 2019.
