As unbelievable as it may seem to us, there are many children in Barcelona who have not had the opportunity to encounter horses or any other animal. For some, merely the experience of being close to nature is unique and amazing. Parc de l’Oreneta’s Pony Park activity was established four years ago with the aim of changing these circumstances and giving all children in our city the chance to have these feelings that should be, if not routine, at least natural. Over time, the project, which is part of the municipal school sports program “L’Escola fa esport a la ciutat,” has become a favorite activity for students in Barcelona.
In an idyllic setting, where the horses and ponies enjoy life in first-class facilities, children from the ages of 4 to 7 learn how to treat and care for them. This first encounter ends with a practical class in which the children receive their equestrian initiation on the back of one of these special and sensitive beings.
Over 4,000 children from around 90 schools are expected to participate throughout the school year.
